Special Education in Early Childhood

  1. About the Program

Early childhood education programs could make significant differences in the level of development of young children. Children who benefit from such programs are more advantageous in the long term than children who cannot participate in such programs. Although early childhood special education has shown an important development in our country in recent years, it is obvious that the theoretical and practical studies in this field should be increased and improved. In Turkey there is almost no practice including especially 0-3 age group. The prevalence of programs, many of which have been developed in recent years, is rather limited. One of the reasons for this limitation is the lack of academics and educators trained in the field of early childhood. In addition, another important reason is the lack of development of appropriate programs in accordance with the conditions of our country and the need for further research on this issue. However, considering that early childhood special education requires special expertise due to the individual needs of children in this period, it is clear that educators and experts who will work with children in early childhood period should specialize in early childhood special education. In addition, by conducting research on early childhood special education, the training of experts capable of transferring the results of these studies to the field of implementation will increase the quality of services to be provided to young children with special needs and their families. The aim of the master's program in special education in early childhood is to educate academicians, educators and experts who offer scientific-based practices related to the main inadequacy areas of early childhood special education and contribute to the literature by conducting research at the graduate level.
