  1. About the Program

Istanbul Medeniyet University Interdisciplinary Master’s Program in Public Finance accepted its first students in the spring semester of the 2018 - 2019 academic year. The primary purpose of this master's program is both to help students generate academic knowledge by carrying out scientific research and papers in the field of Public Finance and to enable them to analyze and interpret this knowledge in order to create value added for and contribute to social welfare. 

Graduates of the Master's Program in Public Finance will have the qualified human profile needed by both the public and private sectors and will develop their capacity to conduct independent original scientific studies in this field.

  1. Admission Requirements

ALES and Foreign Language scores are required for applying to the M.A. program in Public Finance at Istanbul Medeniyet University. Admission and application requirements for the program are announced on the website at the Graduate School prior to the start of each academic year (www.enstitu.medeniyet.edu.tr).

3. Program Outcomes:

1. Graduates of the program are able to reach easily to the traditional and up-to-date information in the fields of Public finance and Public economics and they can analyze this information at the level of expertise.

2. Graduates are able to comprehend the interdisciplinary interactions related to the field of public finance. They also draws original conclusions when analyzing new and complex ideas by using specialization-required knowledge.

3. Graduates will have the ability to interpret, analyze, identify problems and propose solutions by using the information obtained in the field of public finance.

4. Graduates will have the ability to transfer the information about public finance accurately to the team members and other interested people at the place of work.

5. Graduates are able to carry out independent studies on issues requiring expertise in the field of public finance.

6. Graduates are able to evaluate critically the acquired knowledge and skills.

7. Graduates are able to transfer his/her ideas and suggestions based on the knowledge and skills acquired in the field of public finance to the relevant people in written and oral form.

8. Graduates respond to the need of researchers in the studies related to public finance.

9. Graduates know the historical course of public finance and can make logical predictions about the future public behaviors in the economic framework.

10. Graduates are able to analyze the information about public finance originally by using high-level mental processes such as creative and critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making.

6. Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate, the students must take the courses (60 ECTS credits) announced in the program and complete these courses successfully. After the core curriculum, considering the field specialization and the thesis courses, in total 120 ECTS must be completed. Following the completion of the course load, the M.A. thesis should be submitted under the guidance of a supervisor. In addition, the student whose thesis is accepted is required to present and defend successfully his/her work in front of the appointed jury.

7. Employment Opportunities

Graduates of the program are mainly employed in the public sector such as the Ministry of Finance and the Court of Accounts. In addition, they can be assigned in administrative units and inspection boards of public institutions. Besides public sector, they can work in the accounting and finance departments of private sector companies as well as performing professions such as independent accountant, financial adviser, district governor and administrative judge.
