1-) About the Program

Program Presentation

Studies conducted on the nano-scale, which corresponds to one-millionth of a meter, initiated a new era, namely the age of “Nanotechnology”. Every day, various new materials, systems and equipment are being added, has already developed in this field. Thanks to these developments in nanoscience and nanotechnologies, many other sectors such as defense industry, energy, communication, information systems, surface development systems, material production, textile, health sciences and medicine have entered the field of application of nanotechnology.

Istanbul Medeniyet University Nanoscience and Nanoengineering Master Program offers various elective courses such as solid state physics, electromagnetics, tissue engineering as well as basic courses in nanoscience and nanoengineering. The Master of Science (MSc) program is a research and application-oriented program that will allow interdisciplinary studies. Throughout the program, students are trained to be productive and critical scientists who are able to respond to research and development problems in emerging nanoscience and nanotechnology related issues. Students will have advanced expertise in the fields of science they work in and will gain depth in solving problems within the broader field of nanoscience and nanotechnology in their respective fields.

3) Program Qualifications:

Graduates of this program are expected to have the following qualifications:

To be able to examine the scientific problems in the field; to have the ability to work independently or in groups to design and conduct experiments, collect, analyze and interpret data and draw conclusions,  

To have the ability to interpret the knowledge acquired in the field by integrating with the information coming from different disciplines and to create new information,

To gain the ability to communicate in English in written and oral form in scientific field,

To be conscious and responsible about occupational, environmental, ethical and quality issues.

6) Graduation Requirements

The Master's program consists of courses, thesis proposal, thesis studies and thesis defense exam in accordance with the provisions of the related article of the Regulation of Graduate Education and Examination of Istanbul Medeniyet University. According to the European Credit Transfer System, a total of 120 ECTS courses, 60 credits of course work and 60 credits of thesis work, should be taken. 24 national credit courses must be taken except for Special Topics course in order to graduate from the program.

7) Employment Opportunities

There are employment opportunities in fields which are the application areas of nanotechnology such as; materials and manufacturing, electrical-electronic and computer technologies, medicine and health, environment and energy. Graduates can continue doctoral programs in related fields.
