About the Program:
To understand today’s thought, to define and solve contemporary problems, and to propose newer problems, it is necessary to re-discover our tradition of thinking. The discovery of traditions of thinking that have emerged in Islamic and Turkish realm, the understanding of the fundamentals, the establishment of founding philosophers and their thoughts and literature are among the main areas of investigation in this program. In Turkey and in the world at large, the level of awareness of the importance of Islamic and Turkish philosophy and the interest of young scholars in this area are growing.
The interest in our program comes from the graduates of various disciplines mainly philosophy and history of science but also theology, history, human sciences, philology, (incl. those who master Arabic, Persian, Ottoman Turkish and English). By virtue of its experienced and dynamic faculty, the sub-department of Islamic and Turkish Philosophy is among the top institutions of its area.
Capabilities the programs aims for the graduate to obtain:
- Have adequate knowledge of main problems and subdisciplines of philosophy
- Have adequate knowledge of philosophical problems, main philosophical figures and their relations to historico-social realm
- Be knowledgeable about the relation of philosophical theoretical knowledge to various related disciplines to bring about new perspectives
- Be able to independently conduct research on a particular area of philosophy that requires expertise
- Be able to conduct interdisciplinary research with full-specialized knowledge
- Be able to communicate specialist knowledge to non-specialists
- Has sufficient knowledge of at least one source language of philosophy at the European Language Portfolio B2 Level
- Be able to analyze historically and thematically the approaches to philosophical problems
- Be able to employ philosophical knowledge in problem-solving and interdisciplinary studies

Conditions of Graduation:
For those who have completed or is not required to complete Scientific Proficiency course, to have passed courses taken during the 2-term period and to have completed a master’s thesis

The program is designed for those who aim to be academics and specialists. In this respect, the graduates can seek academic job or related specialist positions in various institutions
