Doctor’s Degree Program of Turkish Language and Literature Department


The aim of the program is to educate academicians who research and interpret the language, art and culture accumulation of Turkish language and literature with scientific methods.
Depending on this goal, our objectives are:
To train scholars who are experts in the field of Turkish language and literature;
To investigate the contributions of Turkish language and literature to universal science, culture and art;
To make studies that reveal the relationship between Turkish language and literature and Turkish history, culture;
To make studies on Turkish literature and aesthetics; to investigate the possibilities of Turkish as a language of science.


Program Qualifications:
The competencies of the graduates of the program are as follows:
1. Correct and effective use of Turkish in written and orally at academic level.
2. To apply the scientific theories and concepts of Turkish language and literature in a different field of research.
3. To be able to conduct scientific research, analysis and evaluation in the fields of Turkish language and literature.
4. Interpreting, comparing and evaluating the texts of Turkish language and literature in academic field.
5. Taking responsibility individually and conducting independent studies in a scientific research in the field of Turkish language and literature.
6. To deal with all aspects of Turkish language and literature.
7. Reading, understanding, translating, interpreting and evaluating texts written in different alphabets of Turkish language.
8. Communicating with the Turkish world, conducting scientific research on contemporary Turkish dialects.
9. Revealing the values of Turkish language and literature, organizing projects and activities on the relationship between life and society.
10. To use the necessary information and communication technologies in the field of Turkish language and literature.
11. To be able to know, evaluate and use the scientific resources of the field of study.
12. To establish a relationship between Turkish language and literature and other social sciences.

1. To be a four-year faculty graduate: Students who apply to the program are not required to be graduated from the Department of Turkish Language and Literature. However, students who have graduated from different departments should take the necessary courses within the scope of Scientific Preparation.
2. Proficiency in English: YDS: 60
3. ALES: 70 (SÖZ / EA) Graduation Requirements
In order for the student to graduate, the weighted grade point average must be at least 2.50; must have successfully completed courses, seminar course and thesis work in order to reach at least 240 ECTS in total.
Employment Opportunities (Master)
Students who successfully complete the program are awarded the title of “Doctor of Literature”. With this title, they can start the Associate Professorship process or work as an Assistant Professor in the related departments of the universities.
The graduates of the Turkish Language and Literature program can work in archives, libraries, Ministry of Culture and TRT; work as “lecturers” in academies. Upon completion of the required training program, those who receive a teacher certificate can become “teachers” in secondary schools. In line with their interests and abilities, they can undertake various tasks such as reductor ”and“ editor ”in newspapers, magazines and publishing houses, and they can work in all sectors that have“ creative writing ”field, especially in advertising. Most of the graduates work as educators and some of them have the opportunity to find jobs in different fields mentioned above.
