DOCTORAL PROGRAM IN TOURISM MANAGEMENT
- About the Program
Tourism Management Doctoral Program aims to educate potential mangers and academicians who are qualified to think analytically in the field of tourism management, to conduct interdisciplinary cutting edge, original and useful research, to develop innovative course plans and curriculum, to know tourism related social, economic and environmental problems and to develop alternative solutions, to build good rapport and develop good communication with academic and sectorial stakeholders and carry out projects with them, to express his/her opinion in a comprehensibly in written and verbal form, and to follow professional and social ethical rules.
2) Admission Requirements
In order to be admitted to the programme, candidates must have:1) a master's degree, 2) graduate or post graduate degree in a tourism related programme, 3) a minimum score of 70 on Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES), and 4) a minimum score of 55 or equivalent on a foreign language exam other than the native language. According to the quotas announced, the placement of the candidates to the program is done according to the result of ALES score, foreign language score and written doctoral admission examination score conducted by the jury. Total score of each canditate is estimated by adding up 50% of ALES score, 20% of foreign language score and 30% of written doctoral admission examination score. Candidates should apply to the Post Graduate Institute within the application period specified in the announcement along with the required documents and a petition stating that the applicant wants to do a PhD in the Department of Tourism Management. Admission to the program is carried out in line with the Post Graduate Regulations of the Council of Turkish Higher Education and Post Graduate Directives of Istanbul Medeniyet University.

4) Program Learning Outcomes
- Develop and apply knowledge expertly in the field of tourism management and related disciplines.
- Plan and conduct research and projects on topics and problems related to the field of tourism business and management using appropriate research methods, and present the results in a clear and understandable form verbally or in writing.
- Evaluate sustainable tourism development and macro and micro tourism policies.
- Have good knowledge of scientific literature in the field, follow current trends and developments and adapt to changes.
- Have advanced conceptual and practical knowledge and skills in the field of tourism management and able to classify, analyze and evaluate this knowledge within the framework of scientific method.
- Follow developments and trends around macro and micro business environments, identify business opportunities and develop methods to exploit these opportunities.
- Communicate successfully with academicians, research institutions and sectoral stakeholders working in the field of tourism management for the purpose of accessing data or sharing information.
- Have knowledge of legal regulations, professional standards and practices in the field of tourism management.
- Have effective management skills and supervise the planning, direction, coordination and control activities necessary for businesses and realization of projects.
- Internalise legal, ethical and professional principles and have social responsibility when making decisions and conducting business operations.
- Have the ability to develop innovative ideas, to motivate the generation of innovative ideas, and to apply them.

8) Employment Opportunities
Graduates of the program can work as instructors or faculty members in tourism faculties, tourism-related schools and vocational schools. In addition, graduates can work as senior managers in accommodation businesses (hotels, motels, pensions, holiday villages), restaurants, travel agencies, tour operators, tourism information offices, various transportation companies, events businesses.
