1-) About the Program

Program Presentation

Studies conducted on the nano-scale, which corresponds to one-millionth of a meter, initiated a new era, namely the age of “Nanotechnology”. Every day, various new materials, systems and equipment are being added to the ones already exist regarding this topic. Thanks to these developments in nanoscience and nanotechnologies, many other sectors such as defense industry, energy, communication, information systems, surface development systems, material production, textile, health sciences and medicine have entered the field of application of nanotechnology.

The field of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering has come to the forefront in recent years in our country as well as all over the world and has expanded the horizons in applications aimed at improving our quality of life by transferring large resources to this field. Istanbul Medeniyet University Nanoscience and Nanoengineering PhD Program is a research and application oriented program that will allow interdisciplinary studies. Throughout the program, students are trained to be researchers and academics who can respond to current emerging problems in nanoscience and nanoengineering through productive and critical scientific thinking, using a variety of research methods and developing new ones. Our PhD program aims to educate graduates focused on providing solutions to the problems they encounter in their field, with the knowledge and skills needed by the doctoral program or high-level positions outside the university.

3) Program Qualifications:

Graduates of this program are expected to have qualifications such as;

The ability to develop current and advanced knowledge in the field at expert level via original thinking and research, based on their graduate qualifications,

High level skills in using research methods in studies related to the field,

To be able to take part in interdisciplinary studies related to the field; to be able to reach original results by using knowledge requiring expertise in analysis, synthesis and evaluation of new and complex ideas,

To be able to develop new ideas and methods related to the field by using high level intelligent processes such as creative and critical thinking, problem solving and decision making,

To be able to defend his original opinions in the discussion of the subjects in his field with experts in international platforms and to establish an effective communication showing his competence in the field,

To be able to contribute to the solution of social, scientific, cultural and ethical problems in the field and to support the development of these values,

To be able to contribute to the process of becoming an information society by following and sharing scientific, technological, social or cultural developments in the field.

6) Graduation Requirements

Consists of 240 ECTS credits including third Cycle (Doctorate Degree) Program courses (minimum 63 ECTS), Ph. D. Research (27 ECTS) / Ph. D. Thesis (150 ECTS), thesis proposal, doctoral proficiency exam and thesis exam.

7) Employment Opportunities

Graduates of this program, as a science and engineering branch operating in the industrial applications of nano-sized materials, will have the opportunity to pursue a career in areas of strategic importance such as aerospace and military; in the field of medicine and private sector; in R & D laboratories and in academia.
