- About the Program
In order to understand the cancer mechanism, prevent the cancer and be more successful in the cancer treatment, interdisciplinary studies are needed. Molecular oncology is an interdisciplinary field, which includes molecular biology, medicine, biotechnology, genetics, bioengineering, microbiology and biochemistry. With the help of collaborative studies with the molecular biology field, early diagnosis of cancers by using non-invasive methods, estimation and control of cancer progression with sensitive methods, and modern and more effective personalized treatments method will be possible.
The interdisciplinary research to be performed in the field of molecular oncology will not only improve the overall health, but also contribute to the prevention of labor losses and the improvement of the economy.
- Application Requirements
To apply for the program; candidates must have a bachelor’s/master degree from the faculties of Turkey or abroad whose equivalency is accepted by Turkish Council of Higher Education (YÖK). In addition, candidates must take the ALES exam. Admission of the students will be based on the result of the exam conducted by the Institute of the Medical Sciences.
Candidates who apply to the Program with an undergraduate degree;
- must have a minimum GPA of 3.25 out of 4, or 85 out of 100.
- must have a minimum ALES Score of 80 in the score type of the program which they will apply to.
Candidates who apply to the Program with a master degree;
- must have a master degree in science or art from Turkey or abroad whose equivalency is accepted by Turkish Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
- must have a minimum ALES score of 70 in the quantitative (SAY) score type (Score requirement for TUS is 55).
- must have obtained a minimum score of 60 in a central foreign language examination or an international examination recognized by the Turkish Council of Higher Education (YÖK), or an international foreign language exam recognized by the Turkish Measuring, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM).
Admission process is carried out in accordance with the requirements specified in the Graduate Education Regulations of Istanbul Medeniyet University.
Applications are evaluated and the admission is finalized based on the total score of the following percentages of required exams; 50% of ALES score, 20% of bachelor/master GPA score, 30% of interview or written exam result. Final score must be at least 65 in order to be taken into the admission process.
- Program Qualifications
Molecular Oncology PhD students are expected to acquire the following knowledge, skills and behaviors for their graduation:
- To gain experimental skills in the field of molecular oncology, to be able to perform original research projects, to gain the ability to make the research results available in clinical applications, and to adapt the developed.
- To get the basic and clinical cancer background, to obtain the basic laboratory skills, to have the oncology information required for doing oncology research, and to be able to collect the experimental data, analyze and report the data statistically.
- As a researcher, to be able to specialize in the fields of molecular biology of cancer, in personal diagnosis and treatment methods in cancer.

- Graduation Requirements
PhD program is consisted of core and selective courses, qualification exam, thesis proposal and thesis defense exams in accordance with the Graduate Education Regulation of İstanbul Medeniyet University. To graduate from the program, students must successfully complete the 240 ECTS credits.
