1. ABOUT PROGRAM

1.1. OBJECTIVE

Electrical and Electronics Engineering is a broad branch of engineering related to the design, development, operation, maintenance and repair of products and systems in many kinds of business fields, especially in the production and distribution of energy, industrial control systems, production technologies, information technologies and communication technologies. Istanbul Medeniyet University Electrical and Electronics Engineering Ph. D. Program aims to educate graduates who are equipped with the knowledge and skills to follow the international developments in these fields, conduct original and advanced research in their field, solve the problems with scientific methods and thus contribute to science and technology and adhere to ethical values.

1.2. GOAL

To educate modernist and enterprising senior engineers who can make independent and right decisions, develop original ideas and products, solve problems with advanced scientific methods and thus contribute to science and technology.

2. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS :

Among the applicants who will apply for the Ph. D. program, the ones who meet the following application conditions will start the program.

  • Having a master degree in one of the related fields
  • Having at least 75 standard scores from the academic staff and graduate education entrance examination (ALES) in the type of quantitative score
  • Having at least 65 points from YDS, YÖKDİL or any other English language exam accepted by the council of higher education (YÖK).
  • Being succesfull in entrance exam*

* : The candidate is considered successful, if he / she is successful in the written exam when the entrance exam consists of only the written exam, if he / she is successful in the interview/talent evaluation when the entrance exam consists of only the interview/talent evaluation, if he / she is successful in both written exam and  interview/talent evaluation when the entrance exam consists of both a written exam and an interview/talent evaluation.

3. PH.D. PROGRAM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS AND REGULATIONS (OUTCOMES)

The competences of the graduates of the “Ph.D. Program in Electrical and Electronics Engineering” are as follows:

  1. Has a high level of knowledge in the field of basic science and engineering and use this information to solve any problem she/he encounter in her/his field. (Temeller)
  2. Specializes in one of the areas of expertise in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, becomes aware of current scientific research topics in this field, integrates them with her/his current knowledge, identifies engineering problems in her/his fields, and produces innovative and original solutions. (Depth)
  1. Gets advanced level knowledge not only in their own areas of specialty but also in other related areas in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and/or relevant areas in other disciplines; and utilizes this knowledge in solving problems in these areas in an efficient, innovative and original manner. (Breadth)
  2. Follows current scientific studies and technological developments, makes innovative and original contributions to the science and technology, publishes the results of her/his research in national and international scientific journals. (Research)
  1. Keep developing and pursuing life-long learning habits. (Life-long learning)
  2. Can express her/his ideas and work related results effectively in written and verbally in national and international arenas. (Communication Skills)
  3. Respects social and scientific ethics in addition to professional ethical values in all professional activities. (Ethics)

5. COURSE PLAN (CURRICULUM)

The curriculum of the Ph.D. program consists of a total of at least 240 ECTS, with a total of twenty-four credits and not less than 60 ECTS, with a minimum of eight courses and a seminar, qualification exam, thesis proposal, specialist field course and thesis work.   1. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
  • To complete the curriculum of the Ph.D. program consists of a total of at least 240 ECTS, with a total of twenty-four credits and not less than 60 ECTS, with a minimum of eight courses and a seminar, qualification exam, thesis proposal, specialist field course and thesis work.
  • To pass all of these courses with the grades considered to be SUCCESSFUL in the Istanbul Medeniyet University Graduate Education Institute, Education and Training Regulation and to have the average grade required for graduation.

Examinations (Midterm Exam, Quiz, Final), Experiment, Homework, Project

  1. QUALIFICATION AWARDED

When the program is completed successfully and the program qualifications are provided,  Ph. D. degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering will be awarded.

  1. OCCUPATIONAL PROFILES OF GRADUATES AND ACCESS TO FURTHER STUDIES

Job opportunities in the fields of research and development, production, testing, quality control, marketing, business, and maintenance and repair are available in the public and private sector having the activity area such as power generation and distribution, electric motors, transformers, electronics, micro electronics, nano electronics, communication, wireless communication, satellite communication, computer networks, signal processing, computer and software, automatic control, biomedical, measuring instruments, robotics, artificial intelligence, microwave, antennas and radar systems.

There are also opportunities to conduct academic studies in research institutes and related departments of universities.
