General Information About the Program

History:

Department of Economics at Istanbul Medeniyet University was established in 2010.

Program Goals:

The main objective of the program is to provide students with the knowledge of Islamic banking, Islamic financial institutions, Islamic finance instruments and funding mechanisms, and to provide modern techniques for Islamic economics and finance. In this context, students will be provided with all the up-to-date information about Islamic economics and finance and become competent in their current or prospective professional lives.

Objectives:

The program aims to contribute to the development of qualified human resources needed in in the field of Islamic banking and finance. It intends to equip students with the most recent theoretical and practical knowledge on the subject.

Program Requirements

ALES (Turkish Aptitude Test) and Foreign Language Test scores are not required for applying to the non-thesis master’s program in the Department of Economics at Istanbul Medeniyet University. However, applicants are required to submit their transcripts and take written or oral exams.

Key Learnings Outcomes:

1. Students are able to understand national and international literature on the fields of Islamic finance and Islamic economics and conduct independent scientific research on the subject.

2. Students have knowledge about the basic stages of a scientific research process and the current methods to be followed in these stages.

3. Students are able prepare research proposals and functional research designs.

4. Students are able to use the basic quantitative techniques that is necessary in the scientific research process.

5. Students have knowledge about current economics applications and methods.

6. Students have consciousness to act in accordance with general ethical rules and principles.

* In order to graduate, students must have successfully completed at least 5 (five) courses from the Group A Selective courses.

Graduation Requirements:

The program’s language of instruction in Turkish. The program covers a maximum of 3 semesters of study of which 2 semesters consist of courses. Students who successfully complete the courses are required to prepare a graduation project and present it successfully to his/her advisor. It is compulsory that 30 credits of courses have been taken and accomplished except the Graduation Project.

Employment Opportunities:

Graduates of Non-Thesis Master’s Programs cannot continue doctoral studies. Our graduates work in Islamic participation banks and financial institutions.
