2-M.A. and Ph.D Students (international and Turkish) who want to attend the program on their own expenses are required to apply the program through IMU IGS (Istanbul Medeniyet University, Institute of Graduate Studies). The application dates and exams are announced every year in May/June by IMU IGS through the website:

UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE FOR M.A. PROGRAM: To be considered for admissions, applicants must have a bachelor’s degree. Undergraduate applicants in his/her senior year are welcome to apply. The degrees from foreign universities should be recognized by YÖK (Council of Higher Education in Turkey). Students without a Türkiye Scholarship require to apply to https://denklik.yok.gov.tr/ for obtaining recognition whereas for those with a Türkiye Scholarship, the Scholarship program will manage the process.
POSTGRADUATE DEGREE FOR PH.D. PROGRAM: To be considered for admissions, applicants must have a Master’s degree. Postgraduate applicants in his/her senior year are welcome to apply. ENGLISH PROFICIENCY (FOR M.A. and Ph.D PROGRAMS): Since courses are conducted in English, applicants must already hold an English-language exam score at the time of their application. One of the following is required: at least 79 on the TOEFL IBT, 71 on the PEARSON PTE, C on the CPE or B on the CAE from Cambridge English, or 75 on the YDS from ÖSYM. Please note that the applicants without a Türkiye Scholarship will be subjected to a written and oral scientific proficiency exam by IMU.
TURKISH PROFICIENCY (FOR M.A. and Ph.D. PROGRAMS): Applicants must be proficient in Turkish before starting their coursework. International students require to obtain C1 certificate by attending Turkish proficiency examination by TÖMER or Yunus Emre Institutes (for information about the Yunus Emre Institutes Turkish proficiency exam, visit: https://tys.yee.org.tr/ or obtain 70 from the proficiency examination of the Turkish Language and Literature Department of IMU. Please note that the Türkiye Scholarships program provides one year of free instruction in the Turkish language.
STANDARDIZED GRADUATE EDUCATION EXAMS (FOR M.A. and Ph.D. PROGRAM): International applicants without a previous study/degree in Turkey are exempted from Standardized Graduate Education Exams (GRE or GMAT) while Turkish applicants require to have a score of minimum 60 for M.A. and 65 for Ph.D on ALES (EA, SAY or SÖZ) from ÖSYM. International applicants with a previous degree in Turkey are required to attend ALES but are not expected to obtain any minimum score.
TRANSCRIPT (FOR M.A. and Ph.D. PROGRAM): Applicants should submit transcripts for all college/university degrees and courses. International applicants without a Türkiye Scholarship are required to submit a validated Turkish translation of the transcript as well as the original document to IMU GSSS.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE (FOR M.A. and Ph.D. PROGRAM): Applicants should also submit a statement of purpose. The letter should emphasize the applicant’s academic or professional background and explain briefly how their studies are related to their plans after receiving the M.A. and Ph.D.
RECOMMENDATION LETTER (FOR M.A. and Ph.D. PROGRAM): Applicants should submit an academic letter of recommendation written in English.
PASSPORTS (FOR M.A. and Ph.D. PROGRAM): International applicants should submit their passports and a validated Turkish translation of the passport during application if they are applying to the program without a Türkiye Scholarship.
TUITION FEE (FOR M.A. and Ph.D. PROGRAM): Foreign students accepted to the program without a Türkiye Scholarship will pay a required tuition per semester which is adjusted annually according to the national inflation rate. During the academic year 2018-2019, the tuition per semester was 800 TL.
ADMISSION DECISIONS (FOR M.A. and Ph.D. PROGRAM): Admission decisions are based on an assessment of the applicant’s undergraduate records, at least one letter of recommendation and a statement of academic purpose—all submitted in English.
